What kind of things do you get to do in your classes? Are there any activities that you really enjoy, and why?
I took an art class at EYC and I loved every part of it. It was very hands on and the teachers were really engaging. I also took Science classes at EYC and one thing we did that I enjoyed was something called Algae Academy. We got to study algae and how to help the environment, which I thought, was really fun.

My anthropology class is, very challenging! I love a challenge, and learning about the history of humanity is a blast.

I am enrolled in math, biology, history, English, Entrepreneurship, and personal finance. I am 100% virtual.

I have my four main classes and then I am taking personal finance and strength training. I find strength training interesting; it just gives me more of an understanding of how muscles work and the kind of exercises I can do to build muscle.

A class that I would say makes me curious would be history, because there is always more to learn about our past, and typically just studying the core content of the class leads to other questions I have on my own.

I take five of my classes in person at EYC and one online. I’ve found this works really well for me. My core classes I often need individual help from my teachers, which I receive in class. While the elective I take at home I can do 100% on my own.

How does EYC make you feel cared for and safe?
There’s never a dull moment or a poorly taught lesson with the teachers. They’re always so energetic, kind and caring. Whether that be math or science or English or art, they always know strategies that have always helped me learn challenging material.

What made you choose EYC? Or, if your parents chose EYC for you, what makes it seem like a good fit?
My family chose to send me to EYC Academy because nowhere else was tolerant enough to accept me the way I am with my difficulties. And it has proven to be a good choice as I am now a stronger writer than ever before and I’m learning tough topics that fascinate me through techniques I would have never learned otherwise.

After my 8th grade year was over, we decided that school was not the place I needed to be. Although, my parents and I felt that I wasn’t ready to go back into public school yet. Just because the environment is bad in the school where I would be going. So, we looked into what I could do that would still allow me to play sports because that is one of my favorite things to do but still learn. Then we found EYC.

We learned about EYC from our tutoring experience there and while tutoring there we saw how kind and caring the teachers were there. With my health issues we thought this might be a good fit.
